REAR WINDOW REPAIR
STEP BY STEP RUST REPAIR ON REAR WINDOW AREA OF A 1972 CHEVELLE
/i//chevelle_001.jpg This 1972 Chevelle is a fairly rust free California car. Belonging to my wife, this car will undergo a total resto / mod at our facility. We will use this car to demonstrate some repairs you can do at home.
/i//rear_window_repair_002.jpg One of the problem areas of most of the Chevrolet cars of this era is that water gets in behind the window mouldings, and rust begins, eventualy allowing water in the trunk and lower quarter panels.  This is where they all rust.
/i//rear_window_repair_013.jpg The first thing we have to do is pattern out the patch using poster board. We then mark it with a marker
/i//rear_window_repair_015.jpg Cut the piece to the window opening
/i//rear_window_repair_017.jpg Final trim of template. This will be what our patch will look like
/i//rear_window_repair_018.jpg This piece needs a little bit of contour. This is done by using a mallet with the right contour and gently pounding the shape into a sand bag
/i//rear_window_repair_001.jpg Before we go too far we must now address the rotted step portion of the panel.
/i//rear_window_repair_005.jpg First you have to bend a piece of metal square to make the step.
/i//rear_window_repair_006.jpg The next step you have to mark the metal to where the bend begins and ends.
/i//rear_window_repair_007.jpg Here is what it looks like. I like using layout dye on the metal and a silver marker . It makes seeing what you are doing much easier.             CONTINUE ON PAGE  #2
